Date me: | I don't know about a sales pitch, but this is me :
I retired early (and I love not having to manage anybody or report to anybody). I have the time and space to do things that are important to me, with people that matter to me. I focus on the future, not the past.
I enjoy thunderstorms, rainbows, waterfalls, big trees, mountain tracks and the pounding of waves. I enjoy the look on my dogs' faces as they bound around in the fynbos. I can watch wildlife for hours, and would like to do it more often. I like the smell of thatch.
I am using my freedom to travel and do some seriously long walks, in SA and overseas. Just been hiking the GRs on Runion, and the Otter Trail here. Going on Rim of Africa from Sep to Nov (any volunteers ?) Bhutan is high on my list, so are the Andes, NZ South Island and some less challenging destinations. I also enjoy daywalks around CT, but I don't do any climbing or serious scrambling.
When it comes to a permanent relationship - which is what I'm doing here - I'd like to find someone interested in those activities, among other things, and available to do them. Hiking or travel companion is a good way to start, share adventures and become friends.
If we click you'll find honesty, integrity and commitment near the top of the backpack. I say what I mean (with tact & respect I hope) and do what I say I will.
I'm quite introverted ; I read a lot. Socially I'm pretty quiet. I don't enjoy crowds and traffic. I enjoy eating out, having a few drinks - but I'm really not a party person, I prefer to be one-on-one, or in a small group of friends. I have a glass or two of wine most days, but I don't normally hang out in bars. Or clubs. Or casinos.
I have no interest in motor racing. Or bikes. Or rugby, sorry. Or recreational killing.
I find I get less materialistic as I get older, yesterday's prized possession is tomorrow's clutter ! Not one for status symbols, my bakkie's old and smells of retriever. Yet of late I find myself buying artworks, strange.
I've always thought grooming is for horses (but open to persuasion). | What I want: | Everyone's unique in their own way and attraction is an unpredictable thing. Often it's just the voice, the smile, the choice of words or intonation that do it for me, but how do I describe that ?
I would like you to be intelligent and informed. Adventurous but not reckless. Able to cope with some adversity, have a sense of proportion and not sweat the small stuff. A certain humility always appeals. Decisive is also good !
The point of a dating site is to meet and see if the chemistry works (or not). I'd like to meet and get to know each other face to face, not write emails ! I find it awkward 'chatting' online or talking on the phone to people I don't know well (I like to see peoples' faces when they talk). I don't mind travelling to meet : if I contact you it's because I think you're worth the effort of meeting. I'll accept it with good grace if you're not interested, but please just say so.
Believe it or not, I actually want to spend time with you. If your life is already so hectic that you can't string two dates together it's probably better we don't try.
I want to be able to share adventures with you, not dream about them !
You would have to put up with my dogs - they're house pets and act like it. But they're good dogs, mostly, when they're dry...
